Self-rating your web site with an ICCS™ Certified rating/labeling syste, can help safeguard the future of your web site as well as your business. It serves as a sign of your participation in an effort to preserve the freedom of the Internet.

The time is right. With pressure constantly mounting for government regulation on web site content, only a genuine and strategic effort to prove a commitment to self-regulation will assist us in having control. It will help us even further in protecting family members from potentially offensive content.

In order to label a website, you have three options:

  1. Use SafeSurf™ or ICRA™ voluntary content labeling system to rate your web site content in its entirety.

  2. Use SafeSurf™ or ICRA™ voluntary content labeling system to rate the content of each individual page of your web site.

  3. (OPTIONAL) Submit your web site to the CSI SafeSites™ Search Engine for ICCS™ Certification and inclusion in the CSI SafeSites search engine. All web sites listed there are PICS labled and ICCS™ Certified.

NOTE: SafeSurf™ is ICCS™ Certified and has been for a number of years. ICRA was formerly ICCS™ Certified, but did not renew.

 

The process is very simple in labeling a website:

  1. Go to the SafeSurf™ or ICRA™ web site, and fill out the form to "Rate Your Website"

  2. Follow the instructions, but BEFORE you generate your label(s) for your web site, read the Terms and Conditions under which the labeling system you have chosen, creates content rating.

  3. Once you generate a rating/label for your website/pages, you will receive an eMail, which has what is called a "META TAG" in it which you must place in your header of your web pages. This information must be placed between the <HEAD> and </HEAD> tags in your HTML code of your pages.

  4. (OPTIONAL) Go to http://www.csisafesites.com, follow the directions, and submit your web site for inclusion in the search engine.  Your web pages will be checked to ensure you have inserted the code you were sent in the eMail properly into your web pages. 

    Once it is confirmed your rating/label has been placed correctly, you will be sent another eMail which has another META TAG of info which validates the content of the web site is consistent with the rating/label you have in your web site code.

  5. You will also have instructions to select an image which represents that your web site is now ICCS Certified. Follow the instructions and place the image(s) as stated in the eMail.

  6. Link the image to iWatchDog.org. If you are using a CSI™ logo as well, link it to http://www.childsafe.com.

Congratulations with your new web site(s) you have rated/labeled.

If your web site is oriented to kids under the age of 13 or collects information from a child who is 13 years of age or younger; a privacy statement is now a mandatory feature of a web site in accordance with FTC and EU regulations.
